Trust in the State & "Science"

Eugenics programs, racial hygiene laws, and medical experiments on "undesirables." Leading scientists and doctors participated. Millions died. "Follow the experts" became industrialized murder.

1930s–1960s • Soviet Union

Lysenkoism & Agricultural "Science"

Stalin's regime trusted pseudoscience that rejected genetics. Millions starved in engineered famines because ideology trumped evidence. Dissenting biologists were executed.

1932–1972 • United States

Tuskegee Syphilis Study

Government researchers withheld treatment from Black men with syphilis to "observe" the disease. They were lied to and denied penicillin even after it became available. Official betrayal.

1950s–1960s • Global

Thalidomide Disaster

Doctors and regulators trusted pharmaceutical companies. The drug caused thousands of birth defects. "Safe and effective" marketing hid the horror until it was too late.

1919 • Europe

Treaty of Versailles

Leaders trusted "the experts" and harsh punitive terms. Planted the seeds for economic collapse and World War II. Political trust led to greater catastrophe.

2008 • Global Finance

Trust in Banks & Regulators

"Too big to fail" institutions, AAA-rated toxic debt, and captured regulators. Trillions lost. Millions ruined. The same experts who caused it kept their jobs and bonuses.

20th Century • Various

Lobotomies & Psychiatric "Science"

Thousands received ice-pick brain surgery on the recommendation of leading psychiatrists. Nobel Prize awarded. Later revealed as barbaric pseudoscience.

Late 20th–21st Century

Opioid Crisis & Pharma Trust

Purdue Pharma and regulators pushed OxyContin as "non-addictive." Hundreds of thousands dead. Massive settlements. Trust in "evidence-based medicine" had a body count.
